Investment at Mare Monte compared to that of the ‘Burj Al Arab’ in Dubai
Net Holdings Group, the company that manages both Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Cyprus Gardens in north Cyprus, has declared that they are preparing to make a large investment in the area of tourism in North Cyprus.
Besim Tibuk, Net Holdings Group Board Chairman, made a speech about the planned project at a press conference held on Friday 16th May at Merit Crystal Cove Hotel, Alsancak, when he said that the Group’s project planned for the Mare Monte was a gigantic project that would have no comparison worldwide. He said that the complex, which would cost in the region of US$200 million, would be ‘the talk of the town’ worldwide, just as the ‘7-Star Burj Al Arab’ in Dubai.
Tibuk said that that the complex, to be built in the architectural style of Cyprus and the Mediterranean, would be Net Holding’s most passionate investment to date.
A civilised regime
The Board Chairman likened north Cyprus to a ‘Jewel in the Med’ with its surrounding blankets of sea, mountains and vegetation and said it was a privilege to be able to live in north Cyprus. He continued to expand further on the projects planned by Net Holdings for north Cyprus and also spoke about Net Holdings’ views regarding the political and economic future of north Cyprus.
He said, “North Cyprus is dynamic in every aspect. It has a more tolerant socio-cultural nature than other European countries and also has a civilised regime. There is hardly any bribery or abuse as compared to other countries and north Cyprus is very lucky in this respect. Net Holdings Group is investing in north Cyprus in the belief that there will be no solution (for peace). We do not believe that there will be a solution nor that the embargoes will be lifted and we have taken this into account in our investment. We have invested in the belief that the current situation will continue. If a solution happens and this unjust situation is changed, then of course, just like with the whole of Cyprus, our investment will also increase in value”.
Up until now the ruling and opposition parties had not done enough to alleviate the unjust and unfair treatment that the Turkish Cypriots were suffering, he said.
Political recommendations
In referring to the strength of the Greek Cypriot propaganda machine Tibuk said that it should be questioned as to just how much truth was being told to the Europeans about the real life situation in Cyprus. He did not think a solution to the Cyprus problem would ever be found if the Greek Cypriot Leaders did not give up on their ideas that one day north Cyprus would be theirs. Tibuk said that he believed that not enough measures had been taken for the lifting of the 34-year-old isolation suffered by north Cyprus and that the Turkish side had not done enough often playing into the hands of the Greek Cypriots. “The Greek Cypriots banned us and we submitted? This cannot be! If you have to; you use the black-market or illegal means and get on with it,” he said before adding that the Group was investing in good quality and luxurious hotel complexes consisting of casino, golf plus spa and health facilities. He said that they were working on the master plan for the Mare Monte Complex on the current site of the original hotel which would bring in a high level income for the Group.
The most passionate investment
“The Mare Monte Complex is our most passionate issue and we are going to spend lots of money there as the project will cost near to US$200 million. The whole world will be talking about it, just as they did with the Burj al Arab in Dubai. There will be no comparison in the world. The project will ready in one year and the complex which will be in the architectural style of Cyprus and the Mediterranean will be built within 4 years,” he said.
Haluk Elver, Net Holding Group Board Member responsible for buildings, confirmed that building would start on the original Mare Monte Hotel site in 2010 and that there will be a 450 bed capacity new complex built together with golf course, shopping centre and luxury villas next to the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino and the Merit Aphrodite and Thalassotherapy Centre.
