Istanbul Hospital and local Health Ministry work together

The Eighth Stage of Heart Surgeries implemented with the cooperation of the Turkish Cypriot Ministry of Health and the Istanbul Siyami Ersek Cardiology Hospital, ended on Friday May 16. It has been stated that in the operations which started in Nicosia Dr.Burhan Nalbantoglu State Hospital Cardiovascular Surgery Unit on Wednesday May 14, 5 bypass surgeries and 20 angio stents have been completed.
Nicosia Dr. Burhan Nalbantoglu State Hospital Chief – Surgeon Dr. Rifat Siber who spoke to the press after the operations, remarked that heart and vascular diseases were seen in northern Cyprus just like the entire world and emphasised that lifestyle was a very important fact in heart diseases. He commented that 93 angio stents and balloons, 34 bypass operations and 36 heart surgeries had been performed in northern Cyprus since 2007.
Siyami Ersek Hospital representative Assistant Professor Dr. Serap Aykut Aka reminded that cardiovascular diseases were the top of the list in the entire world and said that because of this reason the countries generated policies to prevent and cure heart problems.
Aka said that she was pleased to be on the island: “A fully equipped cardiovascular surgery unit has been set-up in northern Cyprus. In fact, we are only observers here. The expert staff of Nicosia State Hospital can perform the surgeries without any assistance. I can say that our Turkish Cypriot doctor friends are very well trained. The infrastructure of the Cardiovascular Surgery Unit is perfect. Therefore the operations were very successful.”
Assistant Professor Dr.Serap Aykut Aka stated that they have done by-pass surgery on a beating heart for the first time in Cyprus in the Eighth Stage Heart Surgeries which was implemented in the Nicosia State Hospital.
